Saint.John

U.S. Virgin Island

Best Season:

Peak Season: December to April, when prices for hotels are at their prime, but during the summer months the temps can soar into the 90s.   Hurricane season runs from about mid June through November. You'll see more rain in October and November but a tropical rain shower could pass through at any time of year.

Favorite Hotels:

If you plan to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands for at least a week I recommend you to rent a villa instead of a hotel room because they are more beautiful and usually have a private swimming pool, balcony and jacuzzi. It recommended that you rent a car but if you do not drive there are taxis that run around the town and to the various beaches.

When I was trying to figure out where to go to get away I decided to search for a place to get close to nature while also enjoying some warm weather.  After a lot of thinking and research, I decided on a beach location but I wanted more than just a big wide beach.  After doing some research I realized that the US Virgin Islands are a unique mix of beautiful beaches, great local food, culture and natural beauty.  I love discovering the greatest spots in the US and since I had already visited Oahu and Puerto Rico this time I wanted to find the absolute best beaches in the US.  There are three Islands that comprise the US Virgin Islands: St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix.  After deciding on what I really wanted to get out of this trip I decided on St. John.  I chose to be close to the National Park which is located on St. John.  I love the beauty of the nature on this island and the great spots to snorkel.  Snorkeling is one of my favorite vacation activities. I could snorkel for hours and I did exactly that on St. John.

I have traveled all over the world and seen beautiful beaches from Thailand to the Maldives to Hawaii but I had such an amazing experience snorkeling and photographing the gorgeous landscape on this island that St. John holds a special place in my travel memories.  This place is one of the best places I have traveled to in the world and it is just a short flight from New York. A dream of mine has always been to snorkel with a sea turtle and I was fortunate enough to have my first chance on St. John at Maho Bay.  It was so relaxing just to swim with the sea turtles and watching them feed on sea grass. They are so graceful and very cute and it made me appreciate the beautiful nature of the island so much more.

There is nothing better than swimming in the crystal clear ocean, enjoying the warm weather and the beautiful life under the ocean.  In my snorkeling adventures I was able to find sea turtles, sting rays and so many beautiful, colorful fish.  My trip to St. John was such a phenomenal experience and there was so much to do in addition to the snorkeling.  There are so many outdoor activities to enjoy on St. John as the majority of the island and the surrounding reefs are comprised of a large national park.  I could go for a hike through the jungle-like atmosphere, walk through mangroves and then find one of the best spot for snorkeling or sailing away from the coast line as well as all of the water sports you could ever wish for.

The tropical vegetation on the island is a sight to behold, everything from local flowers to aloe plants and cactus to the mysterious mangroves are plentiful across the island.  St. John has such an amazing combination of white sand beaches, amazing snorkeling spots, wildlife and just pure natural beauty, Each beach on St. John has its own individual characteristics.  Some beaches are wide and long and perfect for sunbathing and swimming, others are in coves with small beaches but amazing snorkeling – there is something for everyone here.  I could spend all day each day at a different beach and never get bored given the variations at each beach.  In addition, it is very easy to get around the island as long as you have a car or don’t mind taking taxis everywhere you go. There are open van-like taxis at every beach and in town so they are readily accessible.  I rented a car so I was able to be very independent, yet if you don't drive it is still quite convenient to get around.  There are ferries running from one island to another so you are never stuck on one island if you want to explore.

You can easily discover the US Virgin Islands since they are easy to get to and traveling between islands couldn’t be easier.  There are plenty of activities, water sports and great restaurants to suit everyone’s tastes.  Since I love anything from local restaurants to high-end fine dining it was easy to satisfy my hunger.  The food on St. John is wonderful as well and the cuisine is a varied as the beaches.  Happily I could sip my delicate fine wine while watching the sunset from the best spot in the Caribbean.

After this trip in St. John I can honestly say that it was a phenomenal experience.  I am going to go back anytime I can.  St. John has become a very special place for me.  Towards the end of my trip I met an older woman who has been coming back to this island for over twenty years. It’s not hard to imagine why at all.

Swimming around and being able to chase sea turtles and colorful fish here in St.John was the greatest experience. It was a wonderful mind free moment and made me appreciate all that nature has to offer for me to explore.
